Parliament – Bonn 1973

In the early 70´s West Germany announced an architectural competition for a new parliament building in Bonn. The proposal by Thies Arkitekter won 3: d price. The building had a similar Climate Shell design as the proposal for the Town Hall of Malmö fitting well into the theme of the project: OPENNESS.

Town Hall Project – Malmö 1966

In 1967 Rolf won the architectural competition for a New Town Hall in the City of Malmö. Detailed plans were developed but the building was sadly never built due to changing political interests in Malmö City Council. Instead the city erected an anonymous office building in 1975 and it isn’t until today that the Malmö politicians have realized the value of spectacular architecture, i.e. the Turning Torso.

Rolf’s proposal had a unique solution called Climate Shell. Windowless office floors were stacked in separated blocks inside a large glass construction allowing an open and flexible workspace. The Climate Shell principle became Rolfs hallmark in a row of projects in the 70´s. unfortunately none of the projects came to be realized and the idea was never tested in full scale.
